Thanks and Thanksgiving on Cape Cod

This afternoon we had the pleasure of taking a relaxed Cape Cod Beach walk on Corporation Beach in Dennis with our dog Harrison. A leisurely walk with a simple Thanksgiving meal to follow since all of our kids are away. We are "happily full" this Thanksgiving at our Cape Cod bed and breakfast and our guests were all out for their own family festivities. As we walked hand in hand we agreed that this day is really about being thankful and that we are so blessed to be able to meditate on that theme.

We are thankful that our children and loved ones are healthy and happy and that we have each other. That thought became so clear remembering the call we just received from our daughter April after she was in a auto accident coming across country with her boyfriend. Her truck was totaled when they dodged a tree trunk in the highway and their vehicle rolled with the U-Haul attached behind. Thankfully, both walked away without bruises and scrapes. We are thankful of the natural beauty that surrounds us on Cape Cod. We have a beautiful wind mill across the street from our inn and have breathtaking beaches close by. We are thankful that our inn remains busy through this recession and that we have been full these past few weeks.

Brewster For the Holidays - Silent Auction

Brewster For the Holidays,Harrison,Labradoodle

Holiday Wreath Silent Auction leading to large amounts of community support and creativity

Brewster, Cape Cod – From 3-5 PM, Sunday, December 6th, a silent auction will be held at Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster as part of the Brewster for the Holidays finale. The auction will have 24 holiday wreaths designed by local artists, crafts people, and business and proceeds from the auction are donated to the Cape Cod Children’s place. The silent auction is a new activity to the Brewster festival.

Donna Cain, of Brewster by the Sea Inn and Spa has been overwhelmed by the community support and creativity shown by local Brewster contributors to the silent auction. Brewster florist, Bellas Blooms has donated all of the live wreaths and beautifully decorated 4 of them. Local event planner, Abigail Whalen of Designer’s Touch has created a whimsical wreath with glass ornaments and commented that this was a “fun way to get into the holiday spirit”. And spirit it is with the uniquely decorated wreaths, including a dog wreath loaded with edible, colorful bones, a vintage textile wreath decorated by Marla Hyora, a holly berry theme wreath decorated by store owner Shirley Vautin Friends and local artist Theresa LaBrecque’s whale themed decorated wreath with original art work in support of the Save the Whales charity. Many of the wreaths will be on display at local businesses and additional details on Brewster for the Holidays can be found at http://www.BrewsterforTheHolidays.org .

December is such a special time on Cape Cod and the towns of

Sandwich, Cape Cod Canal and Mashpee have created a perfect tradition in their Holly Days Celebrations . Cape Cod has a long history of community spirit and old fashion charm and many of the festivities during Holly Days are a perfect way to welcome in the holiday season. Sandwich is featured this week (with the famous boardwalk!!! flickr photo from dianjo) CC BY-NC 2.0

We have found that many of our repeat guests coming to our Brewster inn love to visit Cape Cod during this beautiful season. Our fireside spa is a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate and our central area in Brewster allows easy driving to the many holiday celebrations during Holly Days. Since Cape Cod is recognized for it's many outstanding galleries and studios, it also is a perfect place to find unique gifts.

Sandwich is a beautiful old fashion town and some of our favorite festivities during Holly Days include historic home tours, a train ride on the North Pole express and a lighted stroll at Heritage Gardens. Mashpee is also known for it's high end shopping at Mashpee Commons and they have organized a wonderful Cape Cod Christmas parade on Saturday, December 12th.
The Cape Cod Canal area is the gateway to our beautiful island and joins in with story telling, tree lighting and an old fashion caroling. Check each of the chamber's web sites for detailed information on all of the wonderful events.
